Dress for a sled ride and time standing at camp, with warm layers, protected hands and proper winter footwear.

Start with what your tour supplies

The Tromsø Lapland daytime listing includes a snowsuit and boot covers. These are useful outer layers, but you still need your own warm clothing, hat, gloves and scarf. Do not assume equipment from this listing is automatically included in another operator’s tour, or even in a different option.

The featured daytime tour asks for at least two warm layers, gloves, a hat and good winter boots. Its listing does not promise a thermal suit. The Best Arctic trip also asks guests to arrive in warm, weather-appropriate clothing. Pack accordingly before leaving your accommodation.

A practical packing list

  • Warm base and middle layers: choose clothes you can comfortably wear together under your coat.
  • Winter outerwear: a warm jacket and suitable trousers for sitting in a sled and spending time in snow.
  • Hat and gloves or mittens: keep them accessible throughout the visit, including during photography.
  • Proper winter boots: choose warmth and grip for the outdoor ground, not just the short walk to the bus.
  • Scarf or neck covering: useful protection for exposed skin in wind.
  • Booking confirmation: keep your exact meeting point and the operator’s contact details with you.

Think beyond the ride

The excursion is longer than the sledding session. You may be outdoors for feeding, introductions and walking between parts of camp, as well as sitting still during the ride. The indoor meal or storytelling break is part of the experience, but its timing can change. Arrive ready for the first outdoor activity rather than relying on an immediate warm break.

For an evening visit, plan for time looking at the sky after the camp activities. Keep spare personal layers in a manageable bag. If your child’s clothing or footwear needs extra attention, sort that out before boarding: the transfer is not an equipment-fitting service.

Confirm borrowed equipment in advance

Ask about sizes, what footwear is included, and whether the equipment applies to your selected option. “Boot covers” does not mean a pair of insulated boots. If a clothing item is essential for your participation, get confirmation from the provider rather than relying on a generic destination packing list.
